Wicked’s “2040,” which ends with Randy Spears walking south into the sunset with barely-verbal cyborg girlfriend Alektra Blue, reminded me a little of the 2002 film “Minority Report,” in which Tom Cruise drags around a barely-verbal and goop-covered autistoid precog Samantha Morton.
In 2002 I remember thinking of the clingy, floppy Morton, who herself thought only of balls, and said, “Some day I want a girlfriend just like that.”
Spears (whose name in “2040” also happens to be Spears) falls in love with Blue’s Mira despite the fact that there are plenty of human women around (Kirsten Price, jessica drake) that he can have an actual conversation with.
While Mira is poking at her reflection in the mirror at the 55th annual AVN Awards (she could use her boobs, but she uses her fingers), Spears could be discussing the ins and outs of intellectual property law with Mikayla Menendez or comparing acting tips with James Bartholet.
And even though Menendez, drake, and Price prove to be pretty hot in the sack despite their ability to speak whole sentences, Spears goes for the childlike Mira in the end.
At least Mira doesn’t utterly break down like the Alexis Texas robot, who needs to be propped up just to take one in the Removable Oral Cavity.
Still, Spears’ character seems delighted to meet an uncomplicated person.
At one point Mira picks up a dead crab and stares at it.
“That’s a crab,” Spears says.
“Crab?” Mira says.
I understand the attraction. It is easier to explain crabs to Alektra Blue than it is to debate with jessica drake why we spell her name in small letters. Sometimes the smart girls are so much work.
