Arianna Huffington validates porn parodies

The Huffington Post has compiled a list of porn parodies by XPlay, Hustler, and New Sensations and let their creators speak for themselves.

“The level of commitment I got from the cast was just unbelievable,” said Axel Braun of Hustler’s This Ain’t Happy Days XXX. “Tommy Gunn kept his trademark goatee off to play The Fonz, Alan Stafford dyed his hair a ridiculous strawberry blond to channel Richie, and Jack Lawrence even dyed his pubes orange to become Ralph! We wanted to create an over the top porn parody that plays upon the fun and spirit of the original show, and I think we achieved that.”

While the HuffPost story says the movies are being sold at “premium prices,” the reality is that some porn parodies vary widely in sales from others. In a telephone poll of several video stores in the L.A. area, I found that parodies tend to drop off the radar as quickly as compilation videos, but their online staying power is greater.

The HuffPost story, by Alex Leo, generated some comments that wouldn’t seem out of place on an adult messageboard:

At least these parody-porns are watched by a select group of “enthousiats” in the privacy of the home with a DVD player (VCR?) The rest is on cable!!!!! WTF????????

The conversation briefly veered into a biological examination of race:

It is possible for two darker skinned black people to have light skinned children. It’s called genetics. Just like two blondes can produce a brunette.

Plus, I think they tried to address that issue with Cliff’s own parents who where fair skinned themselves.

But generally the attitude about porn parodies was one of resignation

And you thought porn couldn’t get any more stupid…

Sadness

very very simply, how extraordinarily stupid… people need to pay more attention to the world around them than their laps.

and grim practicality

The mainstreamification of porn in these spoofs here strikes me as slightly disturbing. Not that I’m against erotica — they don’t even look appealing as erotic material.

The story pointed out that one thing porn parodies are getting that other porn is not is mainstream exposure. I do not have reliable information about whether all those mentions on Howard Stern, Inside Edition, and The Huffington Post translate into sales.

Above is a publicity photo from New Sensations’ Seinfeld porn parody. That’s Kristina Rose as Elaine and James Deen as Jerry. I topped the story with Rose’s nude pictures so readers cowed by the HuffPost commenters’ derision might remember that she is, in fact, hot like fire.

Deen, who New Sensations said read for the role and captured it “on the second audition,” also played Seinfeld in Vivid’s Bob Levy biopic Stood Up.

So you can’t say porn parodies don’t have an impressive pedigree.

  1. A Seinfeld porn parody with a woman who kinda sorta resembles Elaine? This is a sad thing to admit but I’ve been waiting 15 years for this.
