As you know, I’ve had my share of porn set drama, made all the more surprising by the fact that (I think I) scrupulously try to avoid it.
That is why I’m shocked that a movie documenting the plagued production of “Wasted” is even being released.
My pal Gazzman emerges from a dark Scottish loch several times a year to direct very hardcore pornography here in America for the UK’s Harmony Films. He discovered Nikki Jayne, gave early work to Bobbi Starr, was the first big producer to shoot Jean Jacobs/Jean Laconia, wears a kilt, drinks peaty Scotch, and is a veritable laugh riot.
But the shoot this summer that would become “Wasted” was literally a pain in the ass.
“I had to go to hospital, twice, for my arse,” Gazzman says. “Now nobody can say that I can’t direct an anal scene.”
It is impossible to say whether Gazzman’s ass troubles were related to the multiple pains in the ass involved in filming, but I’ll just be irresponsible and say they were intimately linked.
Foreign directors work with both time budgets and financial ones when they’re in Porn Valley. Gazzman had brought London’s Megan Coxxx to fuck a variety of people, including Manuel Ferrara, Tony DeSergio, and Lexi Belle, and also put together scenes for other movies featuring Nacho Vidal, Angelina Valentine, Aiden Starr, Brooklyn Lee, and James Deen.
“It was a rough week,” says Gazzman. “You could say it was fraught.”
From Nacho Vidal’s interview with Human Resources, Angelina Valentine’s self-advocacy, and James Deen’s unexpected pop shot on Brooklyn Lee, these backstage videos (some of which first appeared on Fleshbot) and on-set snaps underline the fact that a lot of narrative goes into a form that usually displays very little.
But why release a movie in which so much pain and darkness was evident in making it?
“Well, it worked for ‘The Exorcist,’” Gazzman says, “Plus, we had to have something to show for our trouble.”
