I wanted “Batgirl XXX” to be more Extreme Associates and less Extreme Comixxx

In an attempt to please her inappropriately sexualized father, a woman is initiated into a dangerous business while in a questionable state of mind by two masked men who have sex with her. Perhaps “Batgirl XXX” is a metaphor for porn in general.

Studio: Extreme Comixxx
Director: Sinister X
Starring: Sunny Lane, Evan Stone, Amber Rayne, Phoenix Marie, Aurora Snow, iden Star, Ron Jeremy, Lizzy Borden, Lexi Belle, Lyla Storm, Scott Lyons, Seth Gamble, Tom Byron, Alec Knight

Trapped in the lizard brain of the uneven “Batgirl XXX” is a really good porn movie that is hindered time and again by porn’s rogues gallery: marble-mouthed delivery and slipshod attention to detail. As with many parodies, we think, “Why couldn’t producers have done away with the costumes and comic book/sitcom ripoff script and just made an adult movie where people have a reason to fuck?”

True of all but a handful of porn movies each year, the best line of “Batgirl XXX” is unscripted. In a 3-way with Batman and Robin, Sunny Lane as Batgirl feels Evan Stone’s cock fall out of her.

“GET BACK IN THERE,” she growls.

“Batgirl”‘s pedigree indicates that it didn’t have to be this way.

Nearly a decade ago, a company called Extreme Associates was stung on a standard-issue federal obscenity charge. Agents in a Pennsylvania county ordered, among others of the company’s products, Extreme’s simulated-rapey “Forced Entry” and brought charges against married owners Rob Zicari and Janet Romano, aka Rob Black and Lizzy Borden. Borden had directed the video.

The Department of Justice uses the concept of “community standards” to cherry-pick counties in which juries are more likely to judge a video obscene. Like recent charges brought against Max Hardcore and John Stagliano, the Extreme case was created by federal agents buying porn, not private consumers.

For years the couple fought the charges, remaining in business until, broke, the Zicaris accepted a plea deal. Husband and wife each spent a year in prison in Texas and Minnesota, respectively.

Emerging from prison in 2010, the couple rejoined a porn world that was parody-crazy, and began making superhero movies, Mr. Black using the nom de porn Sinister X. But I’m not sure it’s the best fit.

“Batgirl XXX” opens with the ready-for-anything Amber Rayne as villain-clown Harlequin shaking the bars of her prison cell. They literally shake because they are cheaply made. Harlequin and other villains like Poison Ivy (Phoenix Marie), The Riddler (Seth Gamble), Penguin (Ron Jeremy), and others are all locked up in the co-ed Gotham State Penitentiary, which Commissioner Gordon (Tom Byron) alternately refers to as Gotham City Jail in another part of the movie.

Not only that, but stock footage of the New York City skyline mixes uneasily with live-action shots of downtown L.A.

Meanwhile, Barbara Gordon (Sunny Lane in her final—for now?—adult role), the Commissioner’s daughter, begs him to let her join the police force, but he refuses.

In a series of events that suggests Lane is in an altered state of mind, she wakes up as Batgirl and is initiated into the dark realm of vigilantism via a 3-way with Batman (Evan Stone) and Robin (Scott Lyons).

“Check out what you’ve become,” says Batman before the soundtrack smothers the rest of his dialogue. “Touch yourself.”

Feminist Theory scholars would be concerned by the subtext of this. Barbara Gordon just wants to please her father, but he rejects her on her own terms (then gets blown by his secretary, Lyla Storm, who is younger than his post-ingenue daughter). Barbara only comes into her own as Batgirl through the sexual awakening provided by father figure Batman.

At this point Lane drifts away from being the star of her own movie as The Joker emerges.

Lizzy Borden plays The Joker in an imitation of the late Heath Ledger’s portrayal (whereas Batman and Robin are straight outta Adam West), right down to the makeup. Borden is a terrific actor who is sometimes terrifying. She frees all the criminals from the clink and utilizes the mind-control dust of lackey Scarecrow to, among other things, roofie reporter Vickie Vale (Aiden Starr). You could watch Starr get fucked against her better judgment all day.

Borden does not do nude scenes, which is a damn shame. There is a very violent interchange between Batman and the Joker that you could tell both actors had it in them to take further. But this is a porn movie: Why cast a female as The Joker if she’s not going to have a sex scene?

It’s like the script and production are Hamburger Helper, and the cast are Kobe steaks.

You can see that the cast was (for the most part) lovingly picked. Sunny Lane hasn’t really been a girl next door for years—she does hard, throaty work here. Aiden Starr knows how to bring it, Amber Rayne and Phoenix Marie are very hardcore, Evan Stone has been at this so long that he has almost entirely shed his Playgirl Romance persona, and Borden and Tom Byron can be savage. Even Lexi Belle, not usually known for being gritty, delivers a gloriously animalistic “Fuck Zombie” performance.

You wish the cast had just been able to sink its collective teeth into some original script rather than shoehorn their talents into a movie that’s all over the place.
