Pervert! is a very loving, if that word can be used, tribute to Russ Meyer, and employs some flattering lifts from the Meyer canon, as well as a cock’s eye view reminiscent of the Evil Dead series. A trailer for Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! opened the film at a screening in Hollywood last night, and that set the mood nicely. What is more impressive is that Mary Carey outdoes all her co-vixens with a performance that earned the approval of Meyer alumna Kitten Natividad.
As a B-movie, Pervert! is superb. It is on a par with such fare as Fart! The Movie. Director/Producer Jonathan Yudis hopes to attract festival crowds, have a limited theatrical run, and send this puppy to video pasture where it can quietly make its investment back. It should not be confused with a mainstream comedy like Road Trip or even the awful remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but Pervert! gives some newbie actors as well as old timers like Darrell Sandeen (“I originated the role of Young Abe Lincoln”) plenty of scenery to chew. There is also a scene in which a child is kicked by a mechanic, which should satisfy some niche, somewhere.
