Whenever I see something especially art-smelling featuring nudes, I often wonder how on board the nudes were with the art. This is what captures my imagination about Francesco D’Isa’s “Pornsaints” movement, a very earnest and complex cosmology involving porn performers being raised to the firmament.
“We will call Pornsaint whoever attains sanctity through pornography” reads the mission statement of Pornsaints.org. Pornsaints is preparing a full-length mainfesto called “Porno Totale,” which features J.S. Bach, Macintalk, and the lovely, shiny-faced québécoise Patricia Petite, over whose yielding frame the following voiceover states:
“The Pornsaint dwells in the house of the saints as well but got there traveling by a different path, and came in knocking on another door. To you the universe seems decent. That is why you fear lewdness. You are never frightened by the crowing of a rooster or when strolling under a starry heaven. My kind of debauchery soils anything I may conceive in its course; the vast starry heaven above all.”
While this all sounds to me like something I might write on a grad school application, I can guarantee you that if a vision of Patricia Petite (feast day: September 14) appeared to some migrant farm workers or on a block of cheese, I’d probably convert.
