In two separate headscratchers of press releases detailing a “survey” and a “Huffington Post blog,” Vivid sulks about Nadya Suleman, The One That Got Away.
You may remember that Vivid publicly pursued Suleman with the devotion, grace, and concern for her well-being that French paparazzi showed Princess Diana, offering her a million dollars, a “no-strings attached” office job, and mortgage payments should she just attach her name to Vivid’s. She refused.
But Vivid worried Suleman like a dog with a bone. It is as if she were hounded into porn. But Octomom chose Manwin/Wicked rather than Vivid to release “Home Alone,” her porn debut.
You’d think that Vivid would leave her alone after this.
What does the “survey” suggesting that J-Lo and Lindsey Lohan sex tapes would outsell Octomom porn say about Vivid’s year-long dogged pursuit? Why does the head of a decades-old porn company need to take to the Huffington Post to call porn a viable career option?
It makes me wonder what a Vivid-produced Octomom porn would have looked like. I imagine Paul Thomas creating scenes of villagers with torches tearing Suleman into eight pieces, which Spyder Jonez has sex with. Oh well. Guess we’ll never know.

NEW SURVEY REVEALS LINDSEY AND J-LO PORNOS WOULD BE BIG HITS; OCTOMOM NOT SO MUCH
Vivid Entertainment- XCritic Sex Tracker Poll Also Shows Little Interest in Sampling Columbian Hookers
LOS ANGELES — (July 2, 2012) – Triple-X movies featuring Lindsey Lohan or Jennifer Lopez would be huge hits among porno fans, but fewer have any interest in seeing Nadya “Octomom” Suleman in an explicit film, according to the latest Sex Tracker Survey conducted by leading adult film company Vivid Entertainment and online review source XCritic.com.
A whopping 72.6 percent said they would buy a porno starring Lohan and 65.4 percent said they would purchase a J-Lo porno; but just 14.1 percent would buy one featuring Octomom, who has been offered adult film roles by Vivid and other studios.
A porno starring Dania Suarez, the Colombian hooker at the heart of the Secret Service misbehavior scandal that blew up earlier this year, was of interest to 30 percent of the respondents. Just 12.1 percent of the respondents said they would have any interest in traveling to Cartagena to “visit the area and possibly sample the hookers” while 19 percent said “maybe” and 68.9 percent answered with a clear “no.”
The convergence of the Internet and television would lead to more porn watching by 41.1 percent of the respondents, while 38.1 percent said they would not watch it more frequently and 20.7 percent were not sure what effect it would have.
If offered a non-sex role in a porno 48.6 percent said they would take it, 25.1 percent said they would reject it and 26.3 percent said it would depend on the role. If the role involved sex, 26.4 percent would seize the opportunity, 33.6 percent would turn it down and 30.4 percent aren’t sure.
Asked if they favor an “opt-in” requirement in order to access porn websites, 86.9 percent said no and 14.1 percent said yes.
And, watching anal sex scenes was the most popular “kinky” genre among the respondents, with 42 percent, followed by girl-on-girl scenes at 40.5 percent and MILF at 32.5 percent. Foot fetish films were the lowest on the popularity scale, at just three percent.
“Response to the Sex Tracker Surveys have been overwhelming,” commented Chris Thorne, Editor of XCritic.com, “now more than ever people are enthusiastically expressing their opinions about sex, sexuality and adult entertainment and the results are fascinating.”
The Sex Tracker Survey is conducted periodically through the XCritic.com website, which reviews thousands of adult films and helps represent the voice of the adult consumer.
“IS PORN AN ACCEPTABLE CAREER OPTION” TODAY? ASKS VIVID ENTERTAINMENT CHIEF STEVEN HIRSCH IN HUFFINGTON POST BLOG
LOS ANGELES – (May 31, 2012) – Recent events show porn fulfilling predictions of becoming mainstream entertainment and perhaps even becoming an acceptable career option, says Steven Hirsch, founder and co-chairman of leading adult studio Vivid Entertainment, in an article for The Huffington Post.
“It’s been frequently reported that porn has permeated the mainstream entertainment scene,” Mr. Hirsch writes in a blog entitled, “Is Porn an Acceptable Career Option?” He says “a number of recent events convince me that this is actually happening,” including the decision by Nadya “Octomom” Suleman to shoot a solo masturbation video.
“Three years ago she rejected a $1-million offer Vivid made to her to star in an x-rated film. She told Oprah Winfrey that no matter how hard up for cash she was, the idea that she would appear in an adult movie was ‘completely unfathomable.’ Today no one is surprised that she seems to be embracing porn, and there is little public backlash about her decision. The only controversy seems to be over her poor financial planning, not the method by which she’s solving her money problems.
“Was Octomom’s porn decision part of a new norm? Is doing explicit films to pay the bills now seen as a viable and acceptable option?” Mr. Hirsch asks. He cites the case of Chyna, the former world champion professional wrestler, who has made two successful x-rated videos for Vivid. “With the exception of a relatively small number of people, no one condemned Chyna for her decision to make porn films, and in fact she reports that ‘wrestling fans have been incredibly loyal to me,'” Mr. Hirsch writes. He also cited Vivid’s “blockbuster sex videos with celebrities ranging from Kim Kardashian to Montana Fishburne and from Kendra Wilkinson to Phil Varone. There’s plenty of interest in these explicit videos, but rarely censure. And sometimes, as in the case of Kim Kardashian, a sex tape leads to an empire.”
He notes that when he founded Vivid in 1984 “adult films were considered taboo and as a result, it wasn’t easy for the public to access our movies. Today, Vivid and other adult studios have highly popular websites where their videos are sold 24/7 — either for delivery at home in discreet packaging or for immediate download to the customer’s computer. National retail chains sell our DVDs and hotels offer our movies to customers.”
“Perhaps we are growing as a society, on some levels at least,” Mr. Hirsch writes. “Of course there will always be those conservative groups that disagree with me, but clearly porn is more of an acceptable career option than it ever was before, as it should be. And one day, when Octomom tells her children what she did to help support them, they’re sure to have 14 different opinions… but hopefully disapproval won’t be one of them.”

“And one day, when Octomom tells her children what she did to help support them, they’re sure to have 14 different opinions… but hopefully disapproval won’t be one of them.”
So he’s…hoping for fourteen different forms of approval, then? Because that’s a lot of variations on a theme. How many forms of approval are there? Unstinting. Tacit. Grudging. Unqualified. Enthusiastic. Uh…Cheerful? Mild?
It’s going to be complicated, is what I’m saying.
