Rigger, Please: Pet Peeves of Bondage Folk [Pro Villain]

“The great thing about professional bondage models,” says Tim Woodman, AKA Pro Villain, “is they tell you exactly when and where it hurts.”

Woodman joins me for “Rigger, Please,” an occasional update on the pet peeves of personnel from the heavy hitting side of porn.

provillain-biopic“In the Great Fetish Migration of the early-to-mid-90s,” Woodman is saying, “when mainstream porn companies were trying out what they called ‘fetish,’ you’d get a lot of mainstream models who just didn’t get bondage. So there was this problem of women from the mainstream side who might be in pain but would just ask ‘How much longer will this take?’ And that’s the attitude of someone who’s used to having uncomfortably large objects in her ass.

“But a fetish model knows what to say, specifically, when something goes wrong: ‘I can’t feel my feet,” or ‘My left wrist is numb.’ That I can work with.”

We’ve all heard of safewords and other S&M terms that have wandered into the vernacular, Woodman says, “but I had to teach mainstream girls how to speak fetish.”

Woodman has been a bondage rigger for 18 years and says his experience has been overwhelmingly positive. In fact, he says, his major complaints are similar to those of mainstream pornographers.

“The girl won’t show up,” he says. “Or I’ll send the agent the script with very detailed notes about wardrobe, and the girl won’t read it, or the agent won’t send it, and she shows up in her regular porn outfit and says, ‘I heard it’s a bondage shoot?’

“It makes for a difficult day when the person you’re working with doesn’t know why she’s there.”

But unlike mainstream producers, Woodman sometimes eats the cost rather than risk a performer’s bad experience.

“This isn’t run of the mill stuff,” he says. “There’s kidnapping, rape fantasies, forced bondage. If you come here and you’re not into it, I will lose an entire day’s work and get no content rather than have you have a bad day on set.”

But, Woodman says, if it’s just that “her leg doesn’t bend the right way,” he can get around it.

“I did work with one young lady who was happy to do everything I wanted until I tied her hands,” he says. “She just got very uncomfortable, so we rigged it in such a way that her hands looked like they were tied, but she could get out of there easily.”

Do people ever freak out?

“Over odd things, sometimes,” Woodman says. “Forced tickling. It is one of the most rapacious things you can do to make someone laugh when they’re tied up and don’t want to laugh.”

The fetish consumer is picky, and studies scenes. Woodman says that consumer will demand authenticity, so someone who doesn’t know the ropes — literally — hurts people who are trying to make a living as bondage riggers.

In the small-ish bondage porn community, Woodman admires Ernest Greene, Nikki Nefarious (who tied up Rihanna for her “S&M” video), and InSex’s Matt Williams.

“But then you’ve got ‘Lord Dommely Domme, Master Leatherpants’ fucking it up for the rest of us,” he says. “I guess there’s pressure when you’re a male dominant and you want to push the envelope and look badass, but if you don’t know how to do it, come to me and let me teach you.”

Woodman makes a living doing private sessions, custom videos (such as the ones on his Clips4Sale store), and membership website work with Pro Villain and Bondage Blowjobs.

I ask what a Pro Villain needs to do when he’s just committed yet another bloody rape to film.

“There is definitely some Top Drop,” he says. “Aftercare is just as important for the person doing the whipping as the person getting whipped. I’ve got to sit down and think about what happened for 15 minutes. If I don’t do that, I bump into walls and break lights.”
