Rose McGowan, Stoya, Tina Tyler, Lisa DeLeeuw on life support

Several years ago Tina Tyler demanded I watch “The Doom Generation.”

“Watch ‘The Doom Generation,’ Grams,” she said.

“Why?” I said.

“Just. It’s. Rose McGowan,” she said, becoming incoherent. “You’ll. Water! Thank me.”

Rose McGowan is a dream I’d never want to wake up from, so I didn’t watch the movie until last night when, trying to trace the first person who ever said “You’re just a life support system for your cock,” McGowan’s portrayal of Amy Blue in “The Doom Generation” came up again.

“The Doom Generation” is a charming, touching, weird, violent mannerpunk movie from 1995. Not only is McGowan in it at one of the peaks of her nubile glory, but director Greg Araki gets a performance out of James Duval that Gus Van Sant probably wished he got out of Keanu Reeves in “My Own Private Idaho.”

“Doom Generation” is a little weak on the story – it’s like “Natural Born Killers”-meets-“Y Tu Mama Tambien” Lite – but its style, heart, dialogue, and direction are perfect.

McGowan shares certain near-translucent characteristics with both ex-boyfriend Marilyn Manson and current Manson sphere of influence occupant Stoya.

Parasite program TMZ stalked Manson and Stoya to Philadelphia, where it obtained the following video clip.

Seriously. Is fame worth being stalked by a retard with a camera? Maybe the exchange rate is better in Pennsylvania.

Anyway, I still needed to find out who first uttered the “life support” line, as it appeared in the 1993 book “Fast Sofa” as well as “Doom Generation” two years later, but very likely originated in the adult industry years before.

I consulted director and John Holmes documentarian Cass Paley, who then asked long-time porn fan Bill Margold, who said, “Sounds like something that the great Lisa DeLeeuw would have said.”

Paley added of the late DeLeeuw, who died in 1993, “Everyone I have ever spoken to said Lisa D was one of the funniest people in the industry. Kelly Nichols said she was the Lucy of XXX.”

So maybe McGowan did not say it first, but she said it well, and I am looking forward to her portrayal of Linda Lovelace in the upcoming “Inferno.”

  1. After I somehow managed to tear my eyes away from Rose McGowan (a Herculean effort), I scrolled/read down to the Hulu clip… which doesn't show up. What's the clip?

  2. was the movie "Doom Generation" that Hulu aparently allows to be embedded everywhere except my site that happens to have XXX in the metatags…
