I was reluctant to attend the filming of “Revenge of the Petites.” How could I relate to a rivalry between sorority girls based on height? But I did attend, and now the movie has been released to much porny acclaim.
Since I get porn for free (as do more and more consumers), I reasoned that maybe I was not giving the movie a chance.
In late October, 2011, I drove to L.A.’s Hamilton High School which, like many stately buildings in the city, defrays costs by renting itself as a filming location. Hamilton High has appeared in everything from “CHiPs” to the original “Beverly Hills, 90210″ to “Sweet Valley High.”
In “Revenge of the Petites” it would double as L.A.’s Hinsdale University, which shows you what a dream factory Porn really is.
“Softcore can be too restrictive on an artist,” director Harry Sparks is saying. Sparks tells me he wants “Petites” to remind people of “Porky’s” and “Fast Times At Ridgemont High,” but with more sex.
Today’s scenes involve heroines Marie McCray and Skin Diamond (known as Marie and Skin in the film) getting humiliated by the cool girls because they’re petite. We watch McCray and Diamond tentatively approach these women who are, at most, two or three inches taller.
I don’t get it.
“I love to prove people wrong,” says Kim Neilsen, the Singapore-bred owner of AMKingdom, a company that he says specializes in “Girl Next Door” material, including the “Hairy And Petite” line. He points out several women on set who are known for their pubic hair. I feel like I am not understanding something. Known for their pubic hair?
“One of the ways American culture is exported is the Coming of Age movie,” Neilsen is saying. “This movie shows Marie’s character coming into her own.”
“And you can do this with a porn movie?” I ask.
“I want to raise people’s emotional levels,” Neilsen says.
I am disappointed to learn that one of my favorite pornstresses is down with an STD and won’t be appearing in the film but—not to worry, Nielsen says—the script is 155 pages.
“I want this movie to shift the paradigm,” he says.
If that is true, “Petites” will indeed be a paradigm-shifting movie, as most Hollywood scripts run between 100 and 120 pages. Whispers on set—which is crowded with lots of girls-only talent and a handful (like Diamond and McCray) of agency-represented Anything Goes women—say the budget is between $75,000 and $250,000.
As in Hollywood, savvy porn companies like to inflate their budgets. But Neilsen tells me that each cast member of “Petites” will get a percentage of the movie’s profits, which is a paradigm shift I’d like to see.
“We would like to institute residuals in movies,” he says.
“Revenge of the Petites” has just been nominated for a NightMoves Award, and features Marie McCray, Skin Diamond, Seth Dickens, Kris Slater, Celeste Star, Dani Daniels, Vanessa Cage, Cassandra Nix, Sativa Verte, Heidi Hanson, Victoria Rae Black, Ashley Jane, Zoey Kush, Riley Reid, Sarah Shevon, Talon, Riley, Victoria, James Deen, Katie St. Ives, Hayden Hawkens, Tia Cyrus, Leilani Leeanne, Jenna J. Ross, Trinity St. Clair, and Nina Devon.
