Vivid’s collaboration with “The Reverend” Bob Levy and Genesis Magazine editor Dan Davis has resulted in Stood Up, a fictionalized account of Levy’s struggles with plagiarism and anti-Semitism.

In an accomplished movie directed by B. Skow and co-written by Davis and Levy, not-so-subtle hints about where Jerry Seinfeld, Andrew Dice Clay, and Jeff Foxworthy got their acts are mixed with uniformly excellent sex scenes, perpetrated by the likes of Lanny Barby, Penny Flame, Savanna Samson, Kimberly Kane, Tommy Gunn, James Deen, and Evan Stone.
Savanna’s picture on the boxcover is misleading in a very porny way. She plays a slick and whorish entertainment agent in the movie, but on the box she looks like she’s going to jump out of a haystack on “Hee Haw”. Maybe they mixed up that cover with Backwoods of Savanna.
To paraphrase a comedian not accused of stealing Levy’s act, The Reverend gets no respect.
The movie does not paint an endearing picture of Levy, not even as a likeable asshole. A scene where he does standup for a Jewish wedding reception is so full of hackneyed stereotypes (not even the funny stereotypes, because those Jews are funny) that it’s hard to feel a connection to the guy. And that’s important, because this is a porn movie; the story doesn’t have to be complex or poignant – it just has to be good enough to hang a porn movie from.
That said, the script of Stood Up should be taught in Porn Scriptwriting 101 the way that of Witness is taught in Hollywood. While there is no midpoint or discernible second act, there is a believable frame and a twist ending.
