I wanted to let you know that the future of erotica arrived in my mailbox this morning, so any of you who wanted to be part of my erotic future need no longer try.
On this, the submissions deadline for the 2010 AVN Awards, even people like me are receiving the big studios’ tentpole movies. This is especially true now that there are hundreds more people who used to work at AVN than there are who currently do.
Wicked’s epic “2040” is decribed thusly in a package containing the movie, a t-shirt, and a coffee mug: “AWARD WINNING DIRECTOR OF THE YEAR BRAD ARMSTRONG BRINGS YOU THE ADULT FILM OF THE DECADE, 2040. FOLLOW THIS ALL-STAR CAST INTO THE FUTURE OF PORN WHERE HUMAN PERFORMERS HAVE BECOME A THING OF THE PAST.”
Mira is a robot who has sex, or an anabot. The copy lists her as a prototype – still in beta testing – so the character played by Alektra Blue is spared the awkwardness of being called a Pro-Anabot. I mean, she’s skinny, but she’s healthy skinny. Not like Jennifer Jason Leigh in “The Best Little Girl in the World”
Mira is performing a sex scene with Randy Spears, one of the last human performers, when she suddenly begins to feel. Evoking comparisons with “Blade Runner” and “AI,” “2040” follows a recent trend of grave porn set in the future: off the top of my head I can think of 2008’s “Upload” and this year’s “The 8th Day,” both of which had loglines like “In a dark future where sex is a crime…”
I have yet to watch “2040,” but I am very excited to wear my Future of Erotica t-shirt around town and drink from my Future of Erotica mug in all the trendiest places. I’ll let you know how it is. I bet it’s dark.
At first I wondered why Wicked’s Stormy Daniels was not in the movie, though all the other Wicked contract performers are (Kirsten Price, Kaylani Lei, Mikayla Mendez, jessica drake), and then I realized that by 2040 Stormy will be President, so she would have had a schedule conflict.

Word around Porn Valley is that "2040" is based on "Living Doll," the prequel to David Aaron Clark's other> sex robot porn script "Doll Parts." I look forward to seeing if he's credited in the movie.
