Jilted strip club patron opens fire

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. — Barred from the Foxy Lady strip club for unwanted advances to the talent, the man who had installed the bar’s security system returned today with a bulletproof vest and two firearms and started shooting.

Sources say the man had developed a crush on one of the dancers and had been told “she doesn’t want to see you.” He left the club but came back this morning around 2:30, killing the club’s manager, a security guard, and injuring several police officers on detail.

It is unclear whether the man then shot himself or was killed by police. According to the club’s website, it was Customer Appreciation Night.

There are three Foxy Lady clubs in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, including Brockton and Providence. The New Bedford establishment is the only one not identified by city in the company’s advertising (instead it is known as Foxy Lady Southcoast), probably due to New Bedford’s reputation as a violence magnet.

Many states have an independently-owned Foxy Lady club. While the Jimi Hendrix song of the same name promises “I won’t do you no harm”, only Hendrix’ “Hey Joe” mentions gun violence.
