Just like that river running through a dusty land

I was talking with a club promoter from Chicago last night who, back in 1979, used to help out at some of the adult theatres there.

“All the raincoater guys would come in to watch the movies, and between the shows there would be local or traveling burlesque acts,” he said. “I was 18 and it was a great job.”

He said that Chicago was part of an ancient traveling circuit that was the big city on tours that also included stops in Nebraska and North Dakota.

“Vanessa Del Rio was one of my first sexual experiences,” he said. He used to pick up the featured entertainers at either the Greyhound station or the airport, drive them to their hotels and to and from the gigs. If he was lucky, something fantastic would happen.
