Prather prattles, pimps periodically published porn potboiler

Former porn agent “Bad Ass Frank” Prather is publishing a memoir of his three years in the adult world, “Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy – An Insider’s Tale of Sex, Heartbreak, and Paranoid Schizophrenia in the Adult Film Industry” in February and is serializing the tome beforehand, a la Charles Dickens, on his web site.

The amiable Bethesda, MD native eased into the adult business when friends like Hailey Young and other starlets asked the bodybuilder to accompany them to porn sets. He quickly found that a little suspension of disbelief goes a long way in this industry.

Prather says:

I went from being on the cusp of a career as a television comedy writer, to owning a successful boutique adult talent agency, to my eventual awakening and retirement from the business. My story is about my three years in the industry, my relationships with the girls, and the daily internal struggle with my own morality. Plus it details an intimate look at the lives, personalities and psychologies of some of my clients, who eventually came to be my friends. All with my “holy shit no way!” sense of humor. It’s compelling, sordid, outrageous and hilarious all at once. It’s a story not about “porn”, but about people.

Three years is a long time to grapple with one’s morality. Really, it’s a long time to grapple with anything. I once grappled with the first sheet of a toilet paper roll for three minutes and it left me spiritually exhausted.

I asked Prather when the first pangs of conscience overtook him.

“I wallowed in self-doubt from early on in my adult career,” he said.

“So what made you finally leave?” I asked.

“What made me quit an industry populated solely by damaged, self-destructive girls, misogynists, and people who are too delusional or in denial to acknowledge how fucked up everybody is?” he said. “Hard to say, it was such a healthy environment and a fulfilling life experience.”

Great. More irony. Look what it did for David Foster Wallace.

  1. Thank you for the best laugh I’ve had all day.

And please put a warning on the link to prathers site, I have never seen so much painfully unfunny material in one place in my life. At first I thought it was an elaborate satire/parody of that Asshole Tucker Max, but no the guy is real and delusional. The site is unpleasant and should only be visited if you have a taste for bad, really bad writing. Sorry for being so negative but his “holy shit no way!” sense of humor pissed me off.

  2. What’s funny is how there are damaged, self-destructive people who won’t acknowledge how fucked up they are in the law industry, the medical industry, the government, educational establishments and others… and yet there are also well-balanced people in these careers as well as porn, go figure.

  3. there is something different about fucked-upedness in porn as opposed to its counterparts in other jobs. I think it has something to do with how easy it is to get away with that behavior.
