Thrusting in the smoke with Sandee Westgate

I was collecting my thoughts in the Hollywood Library when the unmistakeable sounds of Puma Swede being fucked nearby drove me into the street.

Next door was Club Ivar, where any given night one might Hollywood’s musteline elite gather with camera phones. Today, however, the club was being rented for Thrust, by Sandee Westgate’s Femme Fusion, a company she runs with an iron hand and firm breasts. I walked in and saw that someone had rented some smoke machines.

“It’s just one,” said Thrust director Josh Ryan, “but it does a really good job.”

The club was huge, and there was so much smoke over the two floors that I thought I had entered the age of 9/11 porn.

Finding my way upstairs, I found Puma Swede, in a lounge chair, with Johnny Castle. It was just like Clue.

Being Swedish, of course, Puma preferred Cluetefisk. We talked about IKEA.

For a while I watched Swede and Castle pushing the chair around the room. There were thin neon lights and lasers along with the smoke, and Swede especially looked like she was a featured extra in an uncensored Berlin video.

Westgate, a Sacramento native, attended a Playboy casting call in 2000 on the advice of a friend. She worked with Playboy for several years, then launched Femme Fusion with Ryan last year. Thrust is the company’s third film, along with Sandee Westgate’s Girlfriends and Carnal Desires.

Westgate and Ryan ran a tight ship. I can appreciate this now that I am the nation’s preeminent porn director. I showed up half an hour late for a scene that had been scheduled to start half an hour before. Had I been at many other sets, the scene would have started an hour later. This left little time for me to eat Fig Newtons, and I was put into a foul mood.

“God damn it, Sandee Westgate, why don’t you do guys on film?” I asked.

“I believe in the gradual ‘tease’ effect,” she said, taking off her shirt and dancing around. “Right now I’m only comfortable doing girls on film. I don’t feel ready to fuck guys on film yet.”

“I will help you when you’re ready,” I said.

I asked if her years with Playboy had helped with making educated marketing decisions.

“I don’t think giving it all away from the get-go is the best business decision for me,” she said. “Working with Playboy helped my career and website immensely back in the days when I was first getting started, (though) not so much these days.”

“Does the fact that you don’t work with guys on film make you a smarter business person?” I asked.

“I think so,” she said.

Josh Ryan had shot Leisure Time Digital’s boxcovers before he and Westgate began Femme Fusion. Leisure Time is, in Ryan’s words, “the king of comps” and seems to release about 10 low-end titles per week under the Vamp, Maximum Xposure, and other labels. They are responsible for my favorite: Bridal Bang.

“Leisure Time Entertainment has been around for so many years and has so much content that it’s easy for them to throw in extra scenes on a DVD to make it more desirable,” Ryan said. “Especially for niches.”

“Like Pakistani Bang.”

I know that Leisure Time also shoots original content, but I think Femme Fusion is among the distributor’s rare outside producers of new work.

Westgate then shot a solo scene on the stairs. Club employees started walking in and out of the building, but the crew didn’t seem to notice. I went back to the library, where the microfiche machine was cooling down.

Thrust will be released momentarily and also stars Karli Montana and Celeste.
