These are the first grainy images to appear on the web of the reclusive Eon McKai. He is going to appear early next year in a documentary about Vivid director Paul Thomas, Return to Beneath the Valley of the Shadow of Jesus Christ Superstar, and agreed that the Internet coyness should stop. And whose camera would be better than the person who plucked the various-aged wunderkind out of obscurity?
McKai was on the set of The Doll Underground. “The Doll Underground is a sort of Weathermen kind of organization run by Pixie Pearl that recruits suburban girls for various activities,” McKai said. “In this scene they’re making bombs.”
Makeup artist/porn performer Regan Maddox, in symmetrical pig tails, serviced the likes of Daniel and the aptly-monikered and tutu’d Lexi Doll on the bomb table.
As you know, I really enjoyed Girls Lie, so I kept the initial deturgidification that occurred when I was told that Pixie Pearl would be running a terrorist cell of girls who looked like dolls in escrow.
“As long as it’s not The Doll Underground: Reform School Girls,” I said.
As had happened last year when I arrived on the set of Winkytiki’s Rebelle Rousers, I was asked not to take pictures of any of the scenes or the sets.
“Sometimes pictures can be washed out,” McKai explained. “We want to preserve the integrity of the movie.”
Because he said it with a straight face, I didn’t laugh in it. The day a porn movie exceeds the production value of Dude, Where’s My Car? I will modify my feelings about taking any of this too seriously.
With a promise to send me some approved stills this week (but who knows if that will happen since I am burning bridges left and right), McKai opened the backstage area to me like a delightful clam.
I talked with newcomer Daniel and Regan Maddox. Maddox’ first movie in front of the camera is the embattled and upcoming Dana DeArmod Does the Internet. There was some speculation about when that would be released.
“Didn’t it come out today?” Maddox asked McKai.
“As I was working on the edit last night, I don’t think so,” McKai replied. “Vivid-Alt is all about selling no wine until it’s time.”
Maddox is from Tampa. There seems to be an underground pornroad between Florida and Southern California. It is tempting to think that every porn performer from Florida is also a dancer (like DeArmond and Sunny Lane) but Maddox pointed out that neither she nor Charlotte Stokely is a dancer. But isn’t Charlotte Stokely from Utah?
“I wanted to be a dancer,” Maddox admitted. I think being a makeup artist is more necessary in this business, however. She seemed very nice.
Daniel was doubling as a production assistant. He’s from northern California and happens to be Dana DeArmond’s boyfriend.
“I’m riding her coattails a little,” he said.
“Dana DeArmond is the Sun and the Moon and the Stars,” I said. “Why not hitch your wagon?”
Daniel seems like a nice person, too. I tend to like nice people and eschew douchebags. In college I ran a very successful douchebag eschewal service.
In the other room was Pixie Pearl. I asked her what The Doll Underground was about.
“The Doll Underground is a sort of Weatherman kind of organization that I run that recruits suburban girls for various activities,” she said.
I checked my notes.
“What are they protesting?” I asked.
“I don’t know,” she said.
Pearl neither looks like everyone else nor has that steveporn I’m-not-attractive-I’m-just-different vibe. She plays a club kid in Girls Lie and a retro club kid in Joanna Angel’s upcoming Porny Monster for VCA. She revealed that her art student’s monologue in Girls Lie was all true. She will be moving to California in January because she’s getting more work out here.
She started her modeling work by appearing in a few sets for the site Fatal Beauty. “I know a lot of people who haven’t been paid at all by that site,” she said, “but for four sets I eventually got $150.” She then worked with Burning Angel, which is where she met Joanna.
“My first appearance was in Joanna’s Angels 2,” she said. “I think a lot of people think I’m exclusive to Burning Angel, but I’m not.” She added that Dana DeArmond is always telling people that Pearl is available for work and that people just assume Pearl cannot work anywhere else but with steveporn performers.
“Is there anything Dana DeArmond won’t do for her friends?”I wondered. After all, she helped me destroy MySpace.
On the bomb table there was a threesome going on.
“Ouch – this is hard,” Lexi Doll said.
“Don’t threesomes just come together naturally?” McKai asked. “It’s afterward that you have to deal with the politics.”
That made me laugh. Boobies can be political. The elephant in the room is named ButDoAltMoviesSellupagus.
The last time I was at this location was for Vena Virago’s movie East Side Story. I hope I didn’t destroy its integrity by taking pictures, but then again, Dana was there. There wasn’t much for me to do but admire the politics, so I left.
