Sex and Taxes

Everyone remotely connected to the adult industry can be sure of at least half of these.

New York’s Urban Justice Center has compiled a Sex Worker Fact Sheet containing information about taxes on what many states consider unlawful activity.

The fact sheet is for informational purposes only, does not constitute an attorney/client relationship and, most importantly, is published with the disclaimer that, though the sheet was researched and written this month (March, 2006), it is not necessarily applicable to all situations because laws may be different.

Among the items stressed are that everyone who makes over a certain amount of money needs to pay taxes unless the income is a gift. The meaning of “gift” is and has been open to interpretation and debate.
