Thar She Blows, and so blows America

Head-scratchingly absent from any of today’s AVN nominations was the pirate blowjob study Thar She Blows, starring Tyler Faith, Mika Tan, Lisa Sparxxx, Ethan Cage, Lexi Lamour, Norma Jean, Regan Anthony, Wankus, and Don Hollywood and Brooke Hunter (pictured here).

If Digital Playground’s Pirates followed the tradition of porn movies capitalizing on similar mainstream fare, then Thar She Blows has to be one of the first porn movies to capitalize on a porn movie capitalizing on a mainstream movie.

Despite the glee which seems apparent in this pirate blowjob scene, it is also apparent, um, that very little money was spent on the set, relying as it did on laser-printed labels taped to curtains to indicate which part of the pirate ship the scene was taking place on.

But does every porn movie have to be a multi-thousand-dollar production in order to be considered for awards? Isn’t it enough that it’s good? (Don’t get me wrong – I’m not saying that Thar She Blows is good.) But shouldn’t it be enough?

I will spend the next couple of months highlighting movies that fell through award show cracks, either deservedly or not.
