AVN ’09: It has begun

The Sands Convention Center is once again hosting both AVN and CES on the same days, a change from recent years in which CES started earlier and left town by the time AVN was in full swing. But attendance is expected to be down for both conventions this year, and organizers are wisely taking advantage of crossover traffic, each of whom will receive a Jenna Jameson Crossover Traffic of the Year award.

I picked up my badge with little trouble now that this is my fifth year here, and I will wear a wristband for the next four days, cutting it off somewhere in the desert on my way home.

When I was registering for CES a few days ago, I mistakenly gave my hotel room card instead of my driver’s license to the registrar, who said, “You pass out your room key at the other convention.”

In the elevator a bunch of CES guys looked at my wristband with silhouetted naked ladies on it and asked me how much I paid.

“I am America’s Beloved Porn Journalist” I said. “But you guys can get in for 80 bucks a day.”

I got out of the car too fast to hear the first “douchebag.”
