It’s a common career move: a stripper becomes a porn performer, then makes much more money as a stripper due to her porn career. Bunny Ranch mogul Dennis Hof’s recent campaign to lure porn performers to his eight Nevada brothels has a strange twist on that path: while at once tacitly acknowledging their caché as porn-stars-turned-escorts, Hof is also demonizing the “disease-ridden” porn industry that made them famous.
Offering $1,000 to each former performer who gives up her condomless Porn Valley ways, Hof says, “They have to live in terror each month waiting for their tests to come back—-will this be the one that will destroy their life?”
Perhaps Hof is banking on women who secrete that extra-sexy “I just dodged a bullet” hormone that will make them cash cows for his discerning Nevada hobbyists.
Hof says the signing bonus leads to a “6-figure income” and the ability to grow old. While I haven’t looked at the employee roster, I’d say there are more milves working in Porn Valley than there are working in brothels, but I’d need to take an inventory to confirm that suspicion.
This aggressive courtship rings false, somehow, to me.
Since adult entertainment is the purest form of exploitation, it should be no surprise that an offer like Hof’s comes couched in what sounds like concern, in much the same way that Vivid’s pursuit of Octomom included offers of foreclosure relief.

“I want all adult performers to understand that their choice is not between doing condom-less porn, or flipping hamburgers–but that they can become adult superstars at the Bunny Ranch, and earn six-figure incomes, without having to engage in any dangerous sex practices. Hof said he was prompted to action by the US porn industry’s second shutdown in less than a month after yet another adult video performer tested positive for HIV over the weekend. Unlike the porn industry, where condoms are seldom used, since 1981 the Nevada brothel industry has legally required condoms to be used at all times—and as a result has gone over 30 years without a single transmission of any sexually-transmitted disease.
“When I heard that the US porn industry had to shut down again last weekend, it just made me sick. My heart goes out to the thousands of porn actresses out there that go to work each day, not knowing if this will be the day they catch syphilis, hepatitis or HIV because they have to work without condoms,” says Hof, “They have to live in terror each month waiting for their tests to come back—-will this be the one that will destroy their life?
