This month’s combo XBiz Summer Forum and XFanz consumer show at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino were sparsely attended affairs that nevertheless provided a nice opportunity for the few remaining professional pornographers left in America to travel to Las Vegas and enjoy lowered weekday room rates.
It is neither grousing nor sour grapes to say that, at this point, money is very difficult to find in the adult industry: prominent porn stars are working less and all major studios and publications have been worn down to skeleton staffs. So an event like the annual XBiz affair (which added a last-minute outdoor consumer show this year in the wake of the demise of Erotica LA) is more of a drinks-fueled acknowledgment that those still standing remain alive.
And nothing makes one feel alive like Phoenix Marie.
While Ron Jeremy was trotted out with Penthouse Pet Taylor Vixen to cut the ceremonial ribbon and inaugurate the XFanz show, a small crowd of actual consumers wandered among the poolside cabanas as porn performers tried to sell DVDs.
“We were asked to bring 500 DVDs,” one super-slutty and multi-award-winning pornstress said. “I sold three. I think Joanna Angel sold 12.”
These are difficult times, but it’s not as if people aren’t still trying to figure out how to make money, God Bless Them.
And how do Digital Playground’s nearly phosphorescent Kayden Kross and Raven Alexis (the event’s lone Vegas resident) stay cancer-free in the thousand-degree desert sun? Check out what they had to say below in my multi-accented travelogue from the Hard Rock’s windswept Rehab Pool.
