Feeling out of sorts? Torpid? Suicidal? Then this weekend’s eXXXotica Expo in downtown LA can’t come soon enough.
If you are keeping score, you will remember that the AVN-sponsored Erotica LA, an annual June event for the past decade, was cancelled this year, just in time for XBiz to tack its own consumer adult show to its annual Summer Forum in Las Vegas.
Erotica LA’s attendance had been down in recent years and advertisers were pulling out. The XBiz solution, while both novel and enjoyable, did not pull in the crowds.
Now eXXXotica, an upstart show that started five years ago in Miami and has since branched out to New York (well, New Jersey; even Times Square is in Passaic now), is expanding to Erotica LA’s old home at the L.A. Convention Center from today through Sunday.
Making appearances will be Belladonna, Ron Jeremy, Sunny Lane, Jenna Haze, Sunny Leone, Teagan Presley, Joanna Angel, Sophia Lynn, Kaylani Lei, Lupe Fuentes, Diamond Foxxx, Sunny Leone, Evan Stone, Alexis Texas, Lexi Belle, whatever Wicked and Digital Playground girls are in town, Tiger Woods homewreckers Holly Sampson and Joslyn James, and dozens of others.
Visitors can expect a plethora of porn stars staffing individuals booths to hawk their wares as well as a few cautious companies enticed by ground floor prices. Both AVN and XBiz are sponsors of this show, which just a few years ago would have been as inconceivable as Microsoft Office on a Mac. But we overcame that hurdle.
Another sign of eXXXotica’s success is that the operators of the lower-rent Adultcon show (“We put the ‘con’ in Adult”) registered 19 domain names that eXXXotica claims “intended to divert customers … for commercial gain and with the intent to tarnish or disparage the mark by creating a likelihood of confusion as to the source, sponsorship, affiliation and endorsement of the infringing sites.”
Among sites registered this year that until recently redirected to Adultcon’s homepage was ExxxoticaExpo-LA.com.
Attendees can also attend numerous seminars, hosted by the likes of beloved performers Kylie Ireland and Nina Hartley, adult industry lawyer Michael Fattorosi, and birds of a feather William “Bill” Margold and James Bartholet.
I will be hosting a panel on the implications of the .xxx domain with newly-minted AVN editor Steve Javors and director and content licenser Lee Roy Myers on Saturday. It promises to be like “The McLaughlin Group” but with actual gun violence, and Glenn Beck but with more tears.
Numerous adult industry parties will coincide with the Expo, including Saturday’s xPeeps event celebrating the re-release of Erica McLean’s excellent “Hardcore Circus.”
But the biggest convention floor attractions will probably be the “Miss eXXXotica” contest and the 4th annual FAME Awards on Saturday night. As you can see, a hot-and-bothered-looking Sunny Leone will co-host with a jessica drake/Jesse Jane hybrid.
During my lunch break I will walk across the street to the Staples Center and lay a wreath for Kevin Garnett, but then I will walk further up Figueroa to have my annual mitral valve-prolapsing lunch at the Pantry and then maybe a few drinks at the Hotel Figueroa.
Because how many blowjobs can I get before I crumple from malaise?
