Madison Young assimilates AVN red carpet

One of these things is not like the other – and that’s OK.

When Madison Young walked the AVN Awards red carpet with other members of the Spiegler Girls talent agency (including Aiden Starr, Evie Delatosso, Dylan Ryan, Bobbi Starr, and Charlotte Vale) she, like Starr did with Gazzman of Harmony Films, wanted to walk the carpet again in a different capacity, this time as the escort of a lesbian performer named Syd Blakovich.

Other than drag queens and the occasional UFC fighter, openly gay performers rarely walk the AVN red carpet. Even Transsexual Performer of the Year nominee Buck Angel t0ld me that he was denied the opportunity to walk the carpet this year, which seems like an uncharacteristically organized move in an event that is notorious for its slipshodedness.

But Young and Blakovich were not at first allowed to walk the carpet together because, as much as it can be, the red carpet was organized for large groups first, individuals and couples second.

So the picture I took of Young looking plaintively back at Blakovich (which I thought reminiscent of the Elves’ yearning for The Sea), who was forced to wait on the sidelines, accompanied a hastily composed press release Young distributed this week:

Syd was nearly left behind at the red carpet as Madison’s agent ushered her out and instructed Syd to stay behind. Madison was pushed along onto the carpet as press snapped away and Madison looked forlornly back at Syd. After a few moments Madison rushed back to Syd to which she replied “Some fights aren’t worth fighting” and Madison responded with “This one is” as she tenderly took Syd’s hand and escorted her down the red carpet.

I had no idea who Blakovich was. I tried as best I could to write the names as red carpet announcer Mike Moz shouted them, but with Blakovich I thought I heard “Lockwood” and then, when I saw her, thought she came dressed as The Borg.

“Cool,” I said.

Creating queer visibility in the mainstream porn and art world is crucial to creating change and diversity in a world of porn that can so easily become stagnate and commercial and with out passion. Madison wants to bring passion back to porn through art. Madison’s production company Madison Bound Productions is dedicated to creating films that meld art, music, counter culture and sex into one steamy documentation of our sexuality that couples, queers, women and people of all genders who are looking for more in their erotica than “fast food porn” that simply placates the masses.

You might say, “Well she certainly takes herself too seriously,” but think of all the things you take too seriously, like – well, I don’t know. Seriously, what do you take seriously?

Regardless, I thought Young and Blakovich looked great, so consider this mass placated.

I wouldn’t accuse AVN of a vast anti-alternate sexuality conspiracy simply because they don’t seem capable of working themselves up into that sort of complex thinking, but if the guy who markets Deep Throat Energy Drink has no trouble walking the red carpet, so too should women who actually like fucking each other.

  1. This is great…”Borg,” oh man

Anyway, I’m starting to think my fondness for porn is taking a wrong turn if I can recognize Syd Blakovich’s name and face and you can’t.

(But yeah, seriously, she does look a little Borg-like there)
