What is it about Elegant Angel’s new “Bush” movie that makes me think of an American Apparel campaign to sell merkins?
The L.A. based “vertically integrated” clothing company is definitely porn-friendly—Lauren Phoenix and Sasha Grey are both former sock models—and now Elegant Angel seems to be using American Apparel’s font the way American Apparel uses porn’s pubes.

There are those of us whose first sexual experiences pre-dated bikini waxing, so the resurgence of pubic undergrowth in porn is as head (and crotch)-scratching as, I don’t know, a porn parody of “Saved By the Bell.”
But Kristina Rose et al help us to make the readjustment.
“Bush” does for pubic hair what American Apparel does for overpriced t-shirts like the kind I wore when our family was poor: makes it worth exploring.
Five scenes of Allie Haze, Kimberly Kane, Raylene, Rose, and Bobbi Starr having the same sex they usually do except a little more pube-oriented (both soap and sperm cling to them pubes), “Bush” is an everything old is new again time travel porn, with only Raylene representing a time when cheerleaders had to tuck in strays before the Big Game.
Of course this isn’t like peeking at 1978. These pubes are sculpted and, in a few cases, barely there. They look better on some than others. I imagined a Brenda Vaccaro, Karen Allen, or Brooke Adams feeling right at home with Kimberly Kane snapping away at her thatch with her iPhone 4, for example.
Retro pubes aren’t a new thing in porn, but I wonder if, like with milves, the pube market will select who looks best wearing them, rather than initially just letting anyone who hasn’t shaved in a while show up.
Or maybe I just like writing “pube market.”
